Maglieri has enjoyed much international success over the past thirty years. Giovanni and Steve Maglieri bought forty hectares of McLaren Vale scrub in 1965 and set about the task of clearing it to plant vines. Gully Wines was established in 1972, later being renamed as Maglieri Wines in 1977. Steve wanted to create distinctive McLaren Vale wines. When award winning winemaker John Loxton joined Maglieri in 1981, the pair were able to establish their own style. Maglieri had the foresight to plant their Merlot vines on some of the best sites within the McLaren Vale. The finished wine was matured under a combination of tight grained oak hogsheads, softening the gentle tannins and enhancing the plummy Merlot characters
TASTING NOTES
Bright purple red. Fragrant, spicy black fruit on the bouquet with hints of licorice, gum leaf and cocoa. Rounded elegant fruit is held firmly together by lashings of tender oak, gentle flavours within an excellent weight of palate, sweet and currant -like.
